Alternatives
These signs can be used outside of June 14th. I welcome people to use them on June 5th at the Veterans for Military Women Rally, or on June 6th, the anniversary of D-Day at any protest nationwide. There will be a way to submit photos on this website soon.
On June 14th there are nationwide protests, rallies, and marches outside of DC that would benefit from their presence. My emphasis is on safety and respect. If you are in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) and want to avoid the parade and downtown, please consider being inspired by or using these signs at the events outside the district too.
Feel free to just print the officers’ names that you recognize or have a special connection with instead of the whole document. I will be adding a blog with a short biography and explanation of why each name was chosen.
Taking pictures at events featuring the sign and the background and staying out of the picture is welcome as well. Posting to social media with one or both of these hashtags is encouraged:
#HonorableService
#RestoretheStandard
You can also submit photos to the email restorethestandard@proton.me and I will be creating a repository to share on this website and on social media.
Suggestions
Printing at a local print shop will allow you to print without a white border. Simply ask an assistant to help you print with 100% bleed, you may have to email them the document to do that, and you can specify which specific page or pages.
Visit the websites of the main events to become more familiar with veteran issues and how many of those who served still feel a sense of duty for a country we can be proud of, and want to push back against alarming trends of this administration with implications for the military today.
If you have a recommendation for this website, feel free to send that along as well. I am open to the input of we the people, supporting the Constitution, and supporting honorable veterans - and any way to improve that I want to take under consideration.
The Idea: How I Came Up With the Signs
I created these signs after a lot of thoughtful consideration on what my service meant to me, and how important a competent, nonpartisan military is. Leaders who honor the oath they’ve taken to the Constitution.
After attending my first Veteran Protest on March 14th of this year, I was encouraged at the large gathering of veterans who were concerned about the Administration, the military, and the standard. When I say restore the standard, I mean emphasizing competence, experience, and compassion.
I created these signs after asking older and wiser leaders who should be on my list to honor. I emphasized public support for their honorable service to deescalate from partisanship. To let military and defense members know that the majority of us want to keep experience and competence in our nation’s defense, that their absence is noticed, and their values are respected.
